The First lady of the Federal Republic of Germany visits COWA CVTS

COWA CVTS was honoured with a visit of Mrs. Eva Luise Koehler

On 4th February 2008, COWA CVTS was chosen amongst 3 other places to be visited by Mrs. Eva Luise Koehler, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Germany (who was on a state visit with her husband H.E. Horst Koehler) at the recommendation of DED (The German Development Service). The prupose of this historic visit was to see for herself how the HIV / AIDS mainstreaming has taken effect with tremendous results in the school with the collaboration and support of DED, HIV/AIDS department.

The First Lady  arrived at the school at exactly 4:30 p.m accompanied by Honourable Syda Bumba, Minister of Gender, Youth and Social Development. She was received by  the  School Management, Staff; L.C.3 and L.C.1 Chairmen- Makindye Division; The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Kampala as well as  RDC Makindye Division; representatives of the School's Development partners (International Service Volunteers Association {AVSI) & DED staff) and the students.  The Principal of the School then took the guest round the school to see every activity  that was in progress ranging from Taloring, Screen printing, Machine Embroidery and Catering. She was happy to interact with a few individual students in order to understand better their living conditions and how they are benefiting from the training.

One of the activities that impressed her most was the HIV/AIDS sensitization workshop that was being conducted using the 'Value of Life' approach, designed by the International Volunteer Service Association (AVSI).

She was very happy with the fact that the school's major aim is to build self confidence and self esteem in the less privileged youth besides the technical vocational skills provided.
